Taiwan Stamps : 1952 TW C35 Scott 1053 Imperf President Chiang's Resumption Office Imperforation - NGAI, Mint : On January 21, 1949 President Chiang Kai-shek announced his retirement from the Presidency. By the spring of next year the situation of the nation had become so alarming that the President deemed it advisable to comply with the wishes of armed forces and of the people to come out of retirement to save the country from the communists. His resumption of Presidential duties took place on March 1, 1950, amidst the cheers of the masses gathered at the plaza in the front of the Presidential mansion and the shouts of "Long live the President." The commemorative stamps are of a design bearing the President's portrait and the national flag with a full view of the masses cheer.
