Taiwan Stamps : 1962 W C77 Scott 1342-3 Malaria Eradication, MNH - F-VF : At its 26th meeting the Executive Council of the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted a resolution, dated the 28th October, 1960, requesting all its member countries to issue simultaneously on April 7, 1962 a set of Malaria Eradication Postage Stamps, with the further support and assistance of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The main purpose of the program is to arouse public interest in anti-malaria work, thus facilitating the accomplishment of the worldwide malaria eradication scheme. The anti-malaria drive launched in Taiwan in 1952 with the cooperation of WHO made such headway in the following ten years that malaria was almost wiped out. With a view to intensifying the anti-malaria campaign and responding to an international move of such significance, a set of "Malaria Eradication" commemorative stamps was issued in honor of a joint suggestion made by both the WHO and UPU. The stamp has as its central design the globe emblem of WHO above an mosquito, symbolic of the world-wide drive against malaria.
