China Stamps - 2003-6 , Scott 3271-2 Bell Tower and Mosque (Jointly Issued by China and Iran) - MNH, VF : The Bell Tower of Xi'an in China and the Mosque of Isfahan in Iran are ancient buildings with distinct national features. The former is located at the intersection of four main roads leading to the east, west , south and north in the city of Xi'an. Te tower was built in 1384 during the reign of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty, used for giving time with the bell hung in it. Its stateliness and splendor are fully demonstrated by its green glazed-tiled top decorated with gold foils and the upturned eaves f all the stories. The Iranian mosque was built in 1621 during the reign of Sha Abbas the Great in the east part of the Imam Square of Isfahan for a highly reverend religious leader, hence the name Imam Loftollah Mosque. The building, of a distinct style and exquisitely decorated, is a brilliant masterpiece that combines art and architecture.
