China Stamps - 1996-18 , Scott 2699 The 30th International Geological Conference - Full sheet of 40 complete sets - MNH, F-VF : The World Geological Conference is the oldest and largest academic conferences among the world's science conferences. It is a grand meeting of the world's geologists and has a reputation of being the geological "Olympiad". Since the First World Geological Conference was held in Paris in 1878, it has been held once every three or four years. Its goal is to promote the basic research of the geological science and the development of its applied research, provide a large meeting place for geologists to exchange their ideas and information , and offer geologists an opportunity to inspect geological issues and features through geological tours with the help of International Union of Geological Sciences.The 30th World Geological Conference, which was held in Beijing form August 4 to 14 1996, was organized by the China Geological Association, the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources of the People's Republic of China and various governmental organizations, industrial departments and academic organizations involved in the field of geology with the co-operation and financial assistance of International Union of Geological Sciences.
